SPECIAL DISCOUNTED WEEK. SAVINGS CAN BE MADE ON ALL APARTMENTS AT CLUB LA SANTA. Please refer to the pricing tab.

Club La Santa invites you to join the mountain bike week with Claus Jørgensen & Christian Nielsen. This will be a great opportunity to discover new places off the beaten track on the volcanic island of Lanzarote. The week is for everybody, whether you are just biking for fun or an experienced mountain biker.

However, we do expect you to have certain knowledge of mountain biking (min. 1 year of experience), and that you are willing to take up the challenges of the Lanzarote landscape where lava, sand and the sun can test even the strongest rider.

The training

You will bike along the coast on a combination of dirt tracks, tarmac roads, sand and rocks under the supervision and guidance of Claus and Christian. You will bike through the lava fields and towards Famara, Teguise and down south where you will pass the Fire Mountains. Over the course of the week, you will be taken over most of the island enjoying many spectacular views along the way.

The routes will vary in length each day (betweeen 2 and 6 hours) offering diverse routes with various levels of difficulty. During the rides there will be technical exercises – for example, up and down hill exercises, as demonstrated in the programme opposite.

The coaches

Claus Jørgensen

Claus Jørgensen worked permanently at Club La Santa for several years. He was in charge of the bike centre and is a very experienced bike guide with good local knowledge. He has returned to Lanzarote to lead several bike weeks during the last few years, guiding people through the best mountain bike routes on the island. Claus has also participated in many races – both mountain bike and triathlons, including Ironman Lanzarote.

Christian Nielsen

Christian Nielsen worked at Club La Santa for a year and a half. Not only is he a good mechanic, but a well respected mountain biker. He has returned to this beautiful island to take part several races and also to go out with the locals to discover some of the best single-tracks.

31st January – 1st February Club La Santa organises the 2 Stage Off-Road Mountain Bike Race. You can choose either to take part in the race along with the training during the week, or to just take part in therides with Claus, Christian and the Team, which will take place from Monday 2nd – Thursday 5th February.

Accommodation and flights have to be booked separately with Club La Santa UK on +44 (0) 161-790-9890

Event weeks are restricted to guests staying at Club La Santa.

Sprint/Olympic Distance Triathlon Camp w Aug 21, 2009 View URL

ImageImageImageImage

Once again Club La Santa, JBST and SwimForTri link up to provide a structured training week aimed at triathletes working towards various distances. This provides the perfect springboard for their 2011 season.

The sessions are perfect for athletes from intermediate to experienced levels and the aim is to work with each person individually to ensure that they get the correct advice and training.

The camp would not be suitable for absolute beginners who may be used to a lower level of exercise, but athletes from single sports who have a few years endurance experience will find it manageable and great fun.

On top of the programme of training sessions, lectures and social activities (including a great end of camp meal at the La Casa Restaurant) many other activities are available at Club La Santa.

The coaching team has been improved immensely with the addition of two very experienced coaches working alongside Head Coach Joe Beer:

Joe Beer
Joe has been competing in triathlons for 24 years, covering all distances from sprint to Ironman – Including the legendary Hawaii Ironman. He has been coaching and writing in multisport magazines for almost two decades. His book “Need To Know Triathlon” was Published in January 2008 by Harper Collins. He was voted the inaugural 220 Magazine Coach of The Year in 2004 and is a qualified BTA Coach. He has been coaching on camps at Club La Santa for over 10 years.

Dan Bullock
Dan is a swim coach par excellence who knows how to teach triathletes to swim at their best. Dan brings with him state of the art filming equipment and a level of experience which is second to none. He was 220 Coach of the Year 2004 and London Regions Coach of the year 2005.

Phil Price
Phil has been coaching for well over two decades. His local knowledge and wealth of experience adds a dimension of expertise that younger coaches do not possess. He knows his stuff and is very personable.

It is necessary to pre-register as there are only 36 spaces available – this was full by October previously.

Please note that if you want to rent a Club La Santa bike rather than taking your own, you will have to arrange this separately with CLub La Santa UK prior to departure. Competitors getting ready for Penticton Aug 17, 2009 View URL

Image

Penticton’s Annual Ironman triathlon draws competitors and spectators from all across North America and even from as far away as Europe. A recent article (August 14)  in Fredericton, New Brunswick’s Daily Gleaner, found on CanadaEast.com, tells about Jane Garbutt’s preparations for this year’s Ironman Canada race, to be held August 30:

“When it comes to competing in a national triathlon for the first time, Jane Garbutt says age isn’t a factor.

The 51-year-old assistant deputy minister for the Finance Department will be competing in the Subaru Ironman race in Penticton, B.C., on Aug. 30.

“At first, I really wondered if I could do this, if I’d be able to finish,” she said.

“But the key was to surround myself with younger people while I trained. And they didn’t even consider age, they just kept saying I could keep going. And I did.”

The most amazing thing about a great many of the gruelling competiton’s 2400-odd participants is that they are just ordinary people from every walk of life who have taken up a daunting challenge. Just completing the race is a remarkable accomplishment they can be proud of for the rest of their lives.

As race day nears we wish all competitors a great race and offer our congratulations!

Walking for Life - Nordic Walking Jul 14, 2009 View URL

Image

This event has now taken place – for the latest news and offers, please sign up to our newsletter here or get in touch to find out about our next events.

Details of the 2011 event
Just as in the last few years Club La Santa would like to welcome you to the Nordic Walking Weeks with Betina Wegner. The week is for everybody, whether you are young or old, experienced or a total beginner.

The most important thing is that you want an active holiday where you can learn a new and different kind of sport or become better at Nordic walking.

Again in 2011 you have the opportunity to take part both in January or in May.

Nordic Walking is a sport where you use all your muscles while at the same time you spare your back, neck, shoulders and knees. Your muscle stamina and your overall fitness will be improved and you will increase your metabolism. If you are fond of walking in the mountains, hills or in rugged terrain – then you will definitely enjoy walking with the sticks.

The training

You will have an outstanding opportunity to explore the mysterious landscape of Lanzarote. You will walk up volcanoes, through desert areas, in beautiful valleys and on the beaches. Betina will help you find the right style of walking with sticks giving you individual advice.

Betina will take you on many different trips around the island. You can choose the speed you prefer, however, it is expected that you will be in good shape and be used to walking at a quick pace (5 km per hour) and obviously, that you are in good health. On most days you will probably be divided into smaller groups.

The walks will be 3-5 hours every day depending on the distance and the level, and will be accompanied by a car.

We recommend that you bring good walking shoes, or running shoes are an alternative.

Furthermore, you should bring a rucksack with water, sunscreen, a sun cap/hat and swimming gear as you will get plenty of opportunity to jump in the sea on the many beaches we pass by.

Remember extra socks and shoes; we also advise you take a sandwich and a camera, but of course these are optional.

The sticks will be provided for all participants, and at the end of the week you will have the option to purchase some for a good price.

The Coach – Betina Wegner

Betina Wegner is a qualified relaxation teacher, educated in Stott Pilates and also a personal trainer. Furthermore, she gives lectures about exercising, and nutrition and she has made the exercise video “Age not an obstacle”. She teaches back school,
relaxation, cardiovascular training and gives guidance on how to become slim and much more.

Pilates, Yoga & Wellness w.Imma Mate Jul 09, 2009 View URL

Image

Take the opportunity to participate in this new event at Club La Santa and combine holidays, fun, and wellness activities, where beginners or advanced participants can enjoy specific Pilates and Yoga Training.

During this Event, Imma Mateo and her team of certified, experienced instructors will train you and your friends in Yoga and Pilates techniques from the basics to advanced level, catering for participants of all abilities.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise method for your mind and body that can improve your strength, flexibility and mobility. It helps restore balance to your body. With regular training, your posture will change and you will move more efficiently.

You’ll achieve a strong core, develop longer, leaner muscles and improve your overall sense of well-being. Pilates can help you to improve in whatever sports you enjoy, by giving you better body control, alignment and results.

Based upon an anatomical understanding of the body’s muscular and skeletal systems, the Pilates teacher creates a comprehensive exercise programme for the client. Classes will focus on specific areas individually whilst using exercises that integrate the whole body to re-educate and restore it to optimum muscular and skeletal function.

Pilates can be beneficial for everyone, regardless of age and fitness level. In specific classes for all levels you will work on: alignment, posture and body awareness. Train your breathing and develop specific techniques for yoga and Pilates.

In the more advanced classes you will work on body placement and flowing movements. Some classes will be taught by two instructors in order to improve your exercising and make any corrections necessary during training.

The main focus of this week will be proper technique (learning for beginners, corrections for more advanced exercises)

All classes will be in English but we anticipate that fun-loving, active participants from many different countries will come together for days of wellness, fun and workouts in the sun. Come to Lanzarote and enjoy the Club La Santa lifestyle.

The Instructor Team

Christian Gasch, Imma Mateo and Eva Moik

Eva, Chris and Imma have worked together for 10 years. They are all Sport Graduated Teachers, Group Fitness Instructors and wellness professionals. Although they followed parallel ways in
education, they developed specific techniques and different ways of teaching.

Different but complementary, through the variety of their own experiences, they share a passion for improvement and perfection with hundreds of participants in their classes and educational programs.

Bike Weeks with Geoff Cooke, Ain-Alar Ju Jul 08, 2009 View URL

Traditionally, February has always been a popular time of year for bike weeks at Club La Santa. With that in mind, Geoff Cooke, Ain-Alar Juhanson and team invite you to kick off the season under perfect conditions on the beautiful volcanic island of Lanzarote.

This is a great chance to improve your fitness, gain some valuable advice and make some new friends. The training camp is designed to cater for all abilities from novice to the serious racing club cyclist.

Ideally, to get the most out of your bike weeks, you should have some experience of cycling and a certain level of fitness.

The training

Geoff and Ain-Alar, together with the Green Team bike guides (who are all top class riders), will be accompanying you out on the road every day through the beautiful landscape of Lanzarote.

The routes will vary both in length and difficulty, taking you to the far south, through the fascinating Fire Mountains and up to the north, with stunning views of the neighbouring island of La Graciosa.

You will have the opportunity to challenge yourself with steep climbs up to Femes (a climb out of category) and the 10 km long Tabayesco mountain climb. On the longer rides, we stop for a sandwich and drinks which our service car will provide.

Under Spanish law it is compulsory to ride with a helmet at all times.

Geoff and Ain-Alar will be available throughout the two weeks to offer guidance and talk to you about planning your training programme once you return home.

This may include an introduction to, or advice on, power and weight training, to include in your programme in CLS Fitness centre.

Geoff won his first UK National Championship in 1963 and has worked at the top level ever since, both racing and as a national coach. As a measure of his fitness today, he can still cover 200m in less than 12 seconds, on a good day! You will see the team around the resort and are welcome to aproach them for a chat and to quiz them on their cycling knowledge.

The Coaches

Geoff Cooke is an Olympian, World, European, Commonwealth and UK National Cycling Champion. He was BCF National Track Coach 1979/89 and is presently employed by British Cycling as their National Youth Sprint Coach. Fencing with Pernille Svarre May 13, 2009 View URL

Image

Now in its fifth year, the fencing week at Club La Santa gives you the opportunity to try fencing with former Modern Pentathlon World champion, Pernille Svarre.

The week is for everyone from 12 years of age and upwards, who wants to try a different sport or just for the personal challenge.

Find your inner musketeer, get rid of your aggression, get in shape and learn how to be 100% ”there”.

We will explore the interesting world of fencing, where, without a doubt, you will test yourself both mentally and physically.

Fencing is psychological warfare on the highest level, not only against your opponent but also against yourself.

You will be taught technique, tactics and lots of battle practice.
Physically, you will train your legs, abdominals and back, while learning the art of coordinating your arms with your legs in various stances which of course, is very important.

Comment from a former participant, Alex Keegan:

“I had no idea what “fencing” would be like, but I was keen to try, especially as the teacher was a world champion and Olympian! I began very nervously and felt very unfit, but after the first day I enjoyed it more and more (and discovered muscles I didn’t know I had.) I enjoyed the five-day course so much that I immediately signed up for another one! The teaching was excellent and while fencing is mentally demanding and certainly raises a sweat, the training was great fun. I returned to England keen to find a local
fencing club. It’s great that in one week you can discover a new sport and quickly develop so that fencing bouts become an enjoyable challenge. I highly recommend the course!”

The Coach – Pernille Svarre

Pernille has been engaged in elite sports (Modern Pentathlon) for most of her life (25 years). After having won the World championship and participated in the Olympics in 2000 in Modern Pentathlon (shooting, fencing, swimming, riding and running),
she has specialized in training and motivating people. Taking everyone individually she is very focused on training and personal coaching in groups. 5 years ago she started a fencing club for both children and adults.
