Real Name: Deb Paquin
Gender: Male
Birthday: Dec 31, 1905
Age: 107
About Me: Deborah Paquin began running at age 40
after foot surgery and her foot wouldn’t bend. Her doctor said try
running, and she bought a book on a marathon. Since then she has done
more than 30 marathons, and ultramarathons including two Ironman events,
the World’s Toughest half iron event, and run the American River 50 and
the McNaughton 50. She has won her age group at the Napa trail marathon, Auburn
and secured a team win at the Camp Pendelton Mud Run, in the boots and utes
division. (You’re only as good as your weakest link, as the team has to
finish together, so I was the strongest weakest link, and we were the only
5-person team with 3-women and two men.) My toughest races are usually
the ones going on in my head, when I’m tired or think I am bonking. At
McNaughton, my IT band knotted up the size of my fist and buckled my
leg—in loop 2! Hadn’t really expected an issue in Loop 2! But figured since the race
director had to be there for the 100-milers all night, I could just walk until
the next aid, after all what else was there to do on such a nice day. Managed
to massage it out, but in the meantime, I had set a lofty goal -- to finish the
event before my other friend from California, Darnelle, had finished her second beer. I was able to work through the IT
band issue and just got done to see the third beer cap about to fly off.
That goal got me the women’s masters finish that year. You always have to have goals!”
