About Me:

This year (2008) I have ran 6 Ultras and have had my ups and downs through out them. I am falling in love with technical trail running, although road races are wonderful to get a PR. I am still young (21 years old) and look forward to making ultra-running a life-time passion, with hopes to have some success too.

Motivation:

There are a few, but I'm unsure as to which is more critical.

Goals:

Completing a 100 mile race

Exceeding 100 miles in a 24 hour race

Workout Routines / Fitness Tips:
I run anywhere from 30-100+ miles/week, depending on what I'm training for and how far away it is. My ideal "off season" training is 50-60 miles per week along withsets of push-ups, pull-ups, and crunches after and/or before my runs. I cross train by swimming, riding my mountain or tri-bike, or using the stair stepper. I do routine weight sets for upper and lower body. I stick to natural or organic foods as much as possible.

Defining Moments:

I've had many in the past, but recently it has been my two 100 Mile attempts. I first tried Kettle Moraine 2008 and stopped at the 100K. Between the 100 degree heat/humidity, lightening, tornadoes, floods, I had enough once the blisters and dehydration got the best of me. The second was Mohican 2008. Everything was perfect through 50 miles. I was breathing through my nose the entire time, even up the hills, and was at a sub-20 hour pace. My HR was around 130. A couple miles later, I was unable to take a full breath. I would reach about half-breath and my throat would flare with pain and feel like it would close. I was forced to walk about 8 miles and couldn't even make it up the hills without stopping when my HR reached 190. So I hit 60 miles and called it quits. So a second DNF to my name. But I am very excited and dedicated to try again when the opportunity arises!
